Big Pharma stocks rise as Senate, Trump commit to blocking House bill
Washington – Today, Restore Public Trust Director Lizzy Price released the following statement as the focus turns to the Senate to take up and pass the House-passed H.R. 3, The Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019.
“Big Pharma may be happy that President Trump and Majority Leader McConnell have committed to blocking the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, but patients across the country want their Senators to keep the promises they’ve made to finally address this critical issue and there is going to be tremendous pressure to pass this bill.
“The pharmaceutical industry is pulling out all the stops in a desperate scramble to keep prescription drug costs high and protect their profits. But we’re going to keep shining a spotlight on their lies and misinformation and will make sure that patients across the country know who is standing with them and their interests and who is standing with Big Pharma and their profits.
“Senators must keep their promises, listen to their constituents, and pass the Lower Drug Costs Now Act as quickly as possible.”
The Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019 would reduce the cost of prescription drugs for patients and families by giving the health secretary the power to negotiate with drug companies, preventing drug companies from ripping off Americans with higher prices than those they charge to patients in other countries, limiting out of pocket costs for seniors, investing taxpayer savings into research and innovation, and more.
