Trump ICE Nominee’s Delusional Assessment of Family Separation Policy is Disqualifying

Mark Morgan Said Border Patrol “Should Be Applauded” and Did “An Incredible Job”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Restore Public Trust called on the U.S. Senate to reject Mark Morgan, Trump’s choice to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement, because of his baffling defense of the administration’s family separation immigration policy. Morgan said the “Border Patrol actually did an incredible job” and “should be applauded” for the policy.

“This will be a real test for Senators. If they truly oppose the horrific separation of migrant families seeking refuge at our border, how can they possibly vote to confirm a man so delusional that he believes the border patrol should be applauded for an incredible job?” asked Karl Frisch, a spokesperson for Restore Public Trust. “Children have been abused and sexually assaulted. Some have even died. Mark Morgan cannot be trusted to deal honestly with the American people and his nomination must be rejected.”

As Media Matters noted, Morgan is a darling of right-wing media outlets having “appeared on Fox News at least 49 times this year and has also been a guest on online shows hosted by disgraced serial sexual predator Bill O’Reilly and Daily Caller video columnist Stephanie Hamill, a Pizzagate and Seth Rich conspiracy theorist.”
