Conspiracy questions hang over Trump officials as the country awaits SCOTUS decision on Census citizenship question constitutionality

WASHINGTON — Restore Public Trust renewed its call to investigate Trump administration officials today after a federal judge ruled that questions about whether the government committed conspiracy against the Latinx community in adding the citizenship question to the census merited further legal consideration. The news breaks ahead of the Supreme Court decision on the legality of adding such a question to the 2020 Census.

“A federal judge has now ruled that the Trump administration may be using the question about citizenship to target and disenfranchise the Latinx community and that it should be stopped,” said Lizzy Price, spokesperson for Restore Public Trust. “We know that this administration has serious corruption issues, but yesterday’s ruling makes it clear that the questions surrounding the census may be conspiratorial. The addition of a citizenship question to target the Latinx community threatens the values of our country and the integrity of our democracy. Congress must continue to investigate and fully expose Trump officials’ intentions in adding this question to the census. Americans’ representation, the cornerstone of our democracy, is at stake.”

This ruling comes just weeks after Restore Public Trust filed a lawsuit against Secretary Ross for refusing to fulfill several public records requests, and on the heels of The New York Times reporting that reveals the administration worked with an expert on Republican gerrymandering to draft the citizenship question.
